Keeping It Updated
Putting a manual online is not a one-time event. As the department updates its policies, this should be reflected in the online manual. (Indeed, the department should come to think of its online manual as the definitive policy source.) It’s critical that police departments keep their online policies up to date and make sure that the public knows that they're current.
One efficient way to let the public know about updates is to add an “effective date” to each policy. This can be done in the Table of Contents or in individual sections.
The Cincinnati Police Department does a great job keeping their manual (and the public!) up to date. When you arrive at their manual webpage, you’re greeted with a list of all their current policies, along with the date they were last revised.
