The last several years have seen perhaps unparalleled strife around policing, be it street policing—tactics like stop-and-frisk and use of force—or policing surveillance—such as the use of Stingrays, facial recognition, and predictive policing algorithms. Strong and passionate voices argue across what feels at times like an unbridgeable divide.
Yet, the Policing Project is making headway on this entire range of issues. We are doing so in close collaboration with partners that typically find themselves at odds with one another. And we are doing it with funding from across the ideological spectrum.
