Andrea Tyree-Castells
Policy Associate
Andrea is the Policy Associate for the Policing Project's Reimagining Public Safety team, where she applies her background in public safety research and operational change to aid municipalities in scaling their public safety ecosystems. Most recently, Andrea was a Policy Specialist at the Crime and Justice Institute, focused on advancing best practices in policing through direct technical assistance to law enforcement agencies and developing national guidance for policymakers.
Andrea's research portfolio includes law enforcement community engagement, civilian oversight bodies, traffic safety reform, alternative first response, and the application of implementation frameworks and program evaluation in public agencies. Her approach is influenced by her time organizing alongside West Virginian communities and serving as a Peace Corps Volunteer.
Andrea holds a Master of Public Policy degree from Brandeis University's Heller School for Social Policy and Management and a Bachelor of Arts from Howard University.
