Deputy Director of Technology Law & Policy
Clare Garvie is the Deputy Director of Technology Law & Policy with the Policing Project. She is a privacy lawyer whose work focuses on the impact of emerging technologies on civil and due process rights. She has authored several reports on police use of facial recognition technology, testified before federal and state legislative and oversight bodies, and worked with representatives on both sides of the aisle on privacy legislation.
Clare's prior work has included serving as an attorney advisor with the Privacy & Civil Liberties Oversight Board, counsel with the Fourth Amendment Center at the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, and a researcher with the Center on Privacy and Technology at Georgetown Law. She holds a J.D. from Georgetown Law and a B.A. from Barnard College in political science, human rights, and psychology.
